Telescope optics: The Skywatcher Equinox refractor telescope is another very good choice for bird watching, nature watching and photography. Its fast, very high-contrast imaging and the large possible field of view make it the ideal instrument for observing large star clusters and star fields. But it is also a tried and tested device for astrophotography and you can even use it with a standard SCT focus reducer to achieve an aperture ratio of f/4.5. But try high magnifications too! Its razor-sharp optics also make it ideal for separating narrow double stars and enables a sharp image even at high magnifications of the moon and planets without breaking in. Schott glass has been used for the crown glass element on select telescope models. The Skywatcher Equinox 80 benefits from the use of Schott glass for the positive crown glass front element in this telescope’s objective. Schott is one of the leading manufacturers of glass for use in precise optical systems, e.g. also for medical instruments and camera lenses from well-known manufacturers. While Schott glass is only used in a few selected models, all other optics also contain high-quality Grade-A glass from less famous but equally respected manufacturers. Metallic High Transmission Lenses Coatings Each glass air surface has an anti-reflective coating made of exotic metals to enable optimal light transmission of up to 99.5%. The leading Skywatcher “MHC” coatings are the highest quality anti-reflective coatings in their class. The telescope tube has been equipped with an L-bracket for easy mounting on a tripod, perfect for astronomy, bird watching and nature watching.
